In Mali, the glass industry is primarily driven by the rapid urbanization of Bamako. However, the region faces extreme heat and dust storms, making standard clear float glass insufficient for energy-efficient building envelopes. Most high-end projects currently rely on imports that often fail to meet specific local thermal expansion requirements.
The market is seeing a transition from basic glazing to functional glass. There is a growing demand for tempered laminated glass to ensure safety in public infrastructure, as the risks of thermal stress fractures are significantly higher in Mali's arid climate than in temperate zones.
Despite the potential, the local supply chain for deep-processing remains fragmented. The gap between traditional construction and modern sustainable architecture is being filled by the introduction of specialized coatings, such as ar glass, which helps reduce glare and optimize light transmission in institutional buildings.
